What has gone before . . .
CHAPTER HISTORY
During the 1999-2000 academic year, a collection of individual
student felt that something was missing from their academic and social experience as engineering students at Clark Atlanta
University. At the time, Clark Atlanta University, was the only institution within the Atlanta University Center (AUC) to
have an engineering department. Within the engineering student body @ Clark Atlanta, there was a lack of unity, an absence
of networking as well as a complete absence of social functions. Due to the structure af the Atlanta University Center Chapter
of the National Society of Black Engineers(AUCNSBE), participation from Clark Atlanta students was never abundant and was
on the decline. Most Clark Atlanta University Engineering students wanted to participate in a NSBE society, and many believed
that a Clark Atlanta University chapter would provide a more convenient and direct opportunity to do so.
In an effort
to continue the vision of Clark Atlanta University, as well as the mission and growth of the newly formed and highly esteemed
engineering department, an assortment of engineering students found the initiative to pioneer a Clark Atlanta University chapter.
The Clark Atlanta University chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers was founded on the principles of unity, academic
excellence and social awareness displayed in service throughout the community. On October 2nd, 2000, ten chartering members
signed the petition recognizing Clark Atlanta University as an official chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers.
The ten chartering members are; 1)M. Mensah Webb, 2)Cindy Glinsey, 3)Marcus Moreland, 4)JaCina Stanton, 5)Porsha Green,
6)Keithan Hillman, 7)Coridale Jackson, 8)Ivory Alexandre', 9)Teona Edwards, 10)Garvin Davis.
While initially, growth
was somewhat sporadic, a dedicated contingetn remained steadfast and diligent in their duties to ensure the success of their
newly founded chapter. As a result; a presence of community, the initiative of caring and a general concern was not only birthed
but nurtured among the members of this chapter as well as the other Engineering students each member encountered. Shortly
thereafter, the Clark Atlanta University Chapter, [chpt # 1345] was soon nicknamed "the family chapter". This was due to the
governing principle instituted by her members to care for not only the organization itself, but also for each member within
the whole.
